About

Updated photo (Nov 2012)

I am a researcher in particle physics, a member of the CMS collaboration and formerly a member of the CDF and ALEPH Collaborations. I am a tenured faculty at Northwestern University, where I teach mainly electrodynamics and the graduate and undergraduate levels. I love physics, especially particle physics, and my goal is to show the excitement, challenge and triumphs of accelerator-based particle physics, especially to young researchers in the field.

Note: The statements posted in this blog are my own opinions and do not necessarily reflect those of my colleagues on CMS or elsewhere. This blog has no official connection to CMS. Of course I adhere to the agreements and rules of my collaboration, so don’t look for rumors and inside information on this blog…

[…] Collider Blog. Don’t be scared. It is just a 2-month old blog but not a collider. Dr. Michael Schmitt is a researcher in particle physics, a member of the CDF and CMS collaborations, and a tenured faculty at Northwestern University. He is obviously not just a physics fan. He wants show us the excitement, challenge and triumphs of accelerator-based particle physics.
